Most of women living in rural communities are facing the challenge of inadequate primary maternal health services hence increase of maternal and new born mortality. Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects individuals and families worldwide, including in urban communities in Tanzania. In Tanzania, as in many other places, domestic violence is a complex problem influenced by various factors such as cultural norms, economic conditions, and social structures. Women and children are often the primary victims of domestic violence. The consequences for women may include physical injuries, emotional trauma, and economic dependence. Children who witness domestic violence may suffer from long-term emotional and psychological effects.

As the effort to address and prevent such occurrences, Embrace Africa has designed a project called ‘YEYO OPENYI’ [Women First] with main two objectives;

  • To make child birth safe and provide Sexual and Reproductive Health Education to marginalized communities
  • To provide urban women with mental health and legal assistance services as well as small-scale business capital to help survivors heal from trauma, gain independence, and rebuild their lives.
